How Can Someone I Don’t Even Know Hate Me?

Two events that scared me. Where is the hope?

I can understand it if someone I know and associate with doesn’t like me. Be it at work, at play, at church even — sometimes we just have ideological differences that separate us and hence we form social groups or tribes in which to associate.

Recently I’ve had two events occur with people I’ve never met and never spoken to that demonstrate hate or at least anger to a degree I simply cannot understand.

The most recent event occurred while out bike riding.

On casual ride, I was going down the road going in a given direction amongst a moderate amount of traffic. Approaching me in the opposite direction were two vehicles. A small one in front and a larger pickup truck immediately behind it. There was something off about the way they were driving and it was apparent the pickup driver was aggressively pursuing the smaller vehicle. As they came adjacent to me the smaller car pulled off to the side of the road at a neighborhood entrance. The truck driver, while honking their horn, waving their arms, and yelling pulled over abruptly behind the car. This all happened in an instant. I slowed…
